Hive Systems, a cybersecurity company, has published an updated security report. The update contains tables revealing how long it takes a hacker to crack a password. Passwords that are “hashed” are scrambled and hackers unscramble them to hack accounts. Yes, be worried!
Hive recommends combining numbers, upper and lowercase letters, using symbols and making passwords above twelve characters to strengthen them. Hive also recommends salting passwords and using Two Factor Authentication (2FA) to tighten security. “Salting” is something sites do to enhance security and it means placing a random assortment of characters before a password. “Peppering” is just like salting, but the characters are placed at the end of a user’s password.
