Ahimsa is a Sanskrit word meaning “nonviolence.” This ancient Indian concept follows the belief that all living beings have divine spiritual energy; therefore, to hurt another being is to hurt oneself. Ahimsa is also related to the notion that all acts of violence have karmic consequences.

A relatively new company based in Vail, Colorado, has called itself Ahimsa Companies, a plant-based investor. Matthew Tullman is the co-founder and group CEO. In 2017 he co-founded Complement Nutrients, a plant-based and highly regarded clean supplements company.

Ahimsa Companies acquires companies skilled at helping to transition to a plant-based food network system. It recently acquired Simulate, the plant-based nuggets NUGGS brand. Ahimsa Companies also acquired Minneapolis-based Wicked Kitchen and New York-based Good Catch, the plant-based seafood company. Another terrific company it acquired is New York-based Blackbird Foods.

Blackbird Foods makes delicious New York-style hand-tossed vegan frozen pizzas. They can be found at Sprouts, Whole Foods, and Target, to name a few. All these acquisitions will help Ahimsa Companies leverage these brands, recipes, and distribution relationships to make vegan food options more accessible.
