In the AGREEN1 March 8 issue, we learned that Aqua Man walks on algae. Now, black algae is replacing carbon black, a pigment derived from petroleum that is used in making clothing black. The British company, Vollebak has now found a way to make black t-shirts that are durable and environmental-friendly. The company was co-founded by twin brothers, Nick and Steve Tidball, who are designers and ultramarathon athletes. What they dubbed: clothes from the future, the company utilizes black algae for its t-shirts instead of carbon black. Vollebak promises to revolutionize the textile industry and create full lines of clothing that are durable and sustainable. Very forward-leaning times two!
