Cannabis prices in California will likely cost more in 2022. The state slapped another tax increase on cannabis cultivators who grow legally regulated cannabis in the golden state. The Sacramento Bee reported that $333 million was collected in Q2 of 2021 alone, which is a 26% increase from 2020.
Some cultivators have had enough and plan to evade paying. The CEO of Flow Cannabis Co. and Flow Kana from northern California stated this intention in a published letter. Asserting that the two companies represent over 200 farmers from the most famous “Emerald Triangle” area and employ the second highest number of residents, second to the largest employer in the area, Costco. More taxes after the farmers barely survived the devastating forest fires is unusually cruel. It does seem unnecessary for the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) to impose this tax increase.
