“Micro actions make up the macro,” said Max Steitz, one of the two Tulane University graduates who have found a way to recycle used beer bottles. Steitz and his partner Franziska Trautmann, from New Orleans, now run a business devoted to turning Louisiana beer bottles into sand and glass cullet, which they sell for flooring and glass products.

Their company, Glass Half Full NOLA, has recycled over 2 million pounds of glass across Louisiana. With support from volunteers, including Tulane scientists, the company is developing Steitz and Trautmann’s recycling process to help turn the world’s used beer bottles into reusable materials. Cheers to their problem-solving goals.
