The internet aka, the wordwide web, is a very flawed system of information. According to consumer watchdog, Fakespot, two of every five reviews on Amazon are fake reviews. Did you know that businesses will pay for false and fake reviews to be posted. How bogus is that?
This practice is so deceitful and unfair to consumers that the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) just passed a rule that prohibits a company from buying or selling fake reviews. Violators can be fined over $50K. This rule will go into effect in October 2024.
In this new era of AI generated content, all internet users must be aware of the irresponsible and dishonest posting of content all over the internet. Hopefully this FTC ruling will prevent future dishonesty and harm to consumers.
