California has always shown concern about consumer batteries, their potential health and fire hazards, and the disposal of them. Legislators in 2006 introduced the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Act to promote proper disposal and recycling of battery-embedded products.
Now that batteries are becoming more and more ubiquitous, strengthening the 2006 law is critical. Senator Josh Newman and Assembly member Jacqui Irwin have introduced two bills: SB1215 and AB2440, to create free, convenient and accessible battery recycling programs throughout the most populated state in the country.
