The tech giant, Google is in many areas of our lives, not just as a search engine. Google acquired Android Inc., the operating system for their smart phones in 2005. Google’s platform for downloading apps is called Google Play Store, which was previously called Android Market.
Did you know that there is a significant difference between Google’s (app) Play Store and Apple’s App Store? The most important difference is that Apple’s app platform is much safer and goes the extra mile to protect users from malware that often infects smartphones and steals user’s personal security information and may even access their bank accounts to steal their money.
Google’s Android phones have had 15-47 times more malware attacks than Apple. It’s up to the app stores to make sure the apps user’s can download are safe, and that the software developers are not aiming to harm users.
Google and Apple are warning users against “sideloading” an app from third party, such as website or one shared from a friend, because doing so will bypass the operating system’s safeguards. Apps must be downloaded directly from Google’s Play Store or Apple’s App Store. Be smart and keep your smartphone safe.
