The City of York, England, could be home to the UK’s first carbon-neutral hotel. The UK-based property investment firm Helmsley Group wants to build a 99-room eco-hotel using sustainable construction methods and materials. The project proposal was submitted to the city council over 16 months ago and still no reply. Hello??

The proposed hotel will have no onsite food and beverage facilities to spur growth for nearby businesses. Also, it will not have a parking lot to reduce carbon emissions from cars. It will utilize solar panels, air-source heat pumps, and a bio-diverse green wall. The Helmsley Group also expects the project to save up to 226 tonnes of carbon emissions, equivalent to the annual emissions of 170 households.
