Meta’s latest privacy violation resulted in a huge fine. Within the last two years, the tech giant has faced more than four intercontinental penalties over data breaching and privacy issues. Just this September, a European Union privacy regulator, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC), penalized Instagram for exposing information about child users.
On November 28, the DPC imposed a €265 million ($275 million USD) on Meta after confirming the allegations. The DPC said that Facebook violated the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) concerning Data Protection by Design and Default. The DPC also requires the tech company to provide full compliance by February. In a statement release, Meta said it has already rectified the issue. Heard that before many times now!
