Affordable housing is being denied to a whole generation of Americans. New construction is too expensive for most buyers under 40 years old, and existing homes are also very pricey. Creative and desperate 30- to 40-year-olds are turning to ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units), often in their parent’s backyards.
Yet many are still experiencing hurdles, such as insufficient access to financing. Very similar to the tiny house movement, existing financial institutions are not fully ready to offer loans that fit their needs. Why is that? Speaking a little bit louder to banks might help nudge them in this more helpful direction
