Imagine a solar farm that is eight miles long and one mile wide. It’s being planned on the Ute Mountain Ute tribe reservation in Colorado and is scheduled to break ground this year. Called the Sun Bear Solar Project, the tribe is aiming to create the gold standard for solar farm projects.
The massive solar farm will be one of the biggest in the US when it is completed in 2026. It was important to the tribe that the project included environmental preservation over the 4,000 acres and beyond. The tribe will be able to cover its energy needs and sell the extra power to Colorado and the national energy grid.
