A new study conducted in collaboration with Global Omnium, Visit Valencia Foundation, and the Valencia city council focused on the impact of tourism on greenhouse gas emissions. Eighty-one percent of the carbon footprint in the tourism sector of Valencia was caused by transportation via trains, cruise ships, and planes. Valencia plans to become an emission-neutral destination by 2025, making it the world’s leading tourist destination with a zero environmental impact. As the third largest city in Spain, Valencia has created a sustainability roadmap, based on renewable energies, and having full electric mobility. It will also ensure that the local economy and transportation is strengthened, by developing labelling so that tourists and consumers are aware of the sustainable, safe and healthy products they are buying.
