In 2022 the Biden Administration requested the DEA to review how cannabis is scheduled at the federal level. This is especially important now that 23 US states have voted to make cannabis legal for adult use. That amounts to almost 50% of US states and a clear majority of the US population already approving it for legal adult usage.
Most feel that it’s well past time for the federal government to reschedule from Schedule 1 to Schedule 3 or even “deschedule” cannabis. Removing cannabis from Schedule 1 will enable more research, allow for better banking relationships, and help cannabis businesses receive the same tax breaks that other businesses benefit from. Let’s hope the DEA gets a clue.
