The coronavirus pandemic and related restrictions hammered Thailand’s economy. Last year, tourist arrivals were down more than 80%. The government of Thailand wants those 40 million tourists back and is deploying various strategies.
TAT is the Tourism Authority of Thailand and it wants the country to attract the crypto-rich. To execute this strategy, the government it is working with regulators and a local cryptocurrency exchanges to enable payment of tourism-related services using digital currencies. Without ATM fees and exchange rates, tourists save money, and that is “crypto tourism”.
Crypto tourism seems to have started before the Covid-19 pandemic. CoinsBank, a crypto business based in Edinburgh, Scotland organized blockchain cruises in 2016 with most of the cruises along the Mediterranean. Cryptocurrency as a lifestyle sounds pretty nice!
