About the Wednesday Issue… We will share exclusive interviews with the top brass in forward-leaning companies, giving our readers the opportunity to learn about successful enterprises that are destined for even greater success. PART 2 of a two part interview… AGREEN1 recently conducted an interview with Tyla Salley, Co-founder and CEO of the luxury cannabis brand, Deuces 22. AG1: So far, what has been the most challenging part of being in the cannabis industry as a CEO? TYLA: There are still too many people in this industry with no clue about cannabis whatsoever. Many have never tried it, many have never grown it and many don’t know about the culture and the people who currently use it. So I have to be very patient to figure out who is genuine and who is covering up. Then there are those who simply are not CEO material and they are making terrible decisions that hurts many great employees along the way. AG1: What has been the most fun? TYLA: It’s a brand new industry and that’s very exciting. It’s hard, pioneering work, but an opportunity of a lifetime also. I really enjoy learning about new genetics and watching the process from seed to finished product in a highly regulated industry. It’s very unique and that suits me well. I feel like it’s just going to get bigger and better with time. |
AG1: What is your greatest hope for the cannabis industry? TYLA: I hope it’s removed from being classified as a Schedule 1 drug, that states it has no medicinal value, when very clearly it does. It’s legally sold and used as medicine in 36 U.S. states, so that’s a contradiction right there. I hope that descheduling it will destigmatize it so then adults will be able to consume as they like, even in a community or celebratory environment. The message should be: “There is nothing wrong with enjoying cannabis.” I believe that it’s truly a miracle plant, and that we are blessed to have it. AG1: Where can adult folks buy Deuces 22 products? TYLA: Currently we are available in California, so check the Leafly app for exact locations and supplies. We are launching in Michigan on October 22 and we’ll be in Nevada by the end of 2021. |
