KB Homes is the first in the nation to build a new community of homes that are on a microgrid. Each California home has solar panels and 2 solar energy batteries that supply the home with clean renewable energy.
All appliances in the home are electric and owners say they save 40% or more off their energy bill. KB worked in partnership with Kia, Schneider Electric, UC Irvine, SunPower and the US Dept of Energy on this first microgrid community. The homes come with EV chargers also.
In case there is a power outage, owners can switch to battery energy and keep their lives functioning like normal. That’s empowering!
