When 4 friends from Michigan design and build their own solar powered car, watch out! They call their vehicle, the Sunstrider and they broke the coast to coast record. Two of the four friends had already built a solar vehicle when they entered the Solar Car Challenge in high school.
AGREEN1 covered this amazing program in the July 10 issue last year. Since 1993, this STEM initiative has provided a fun and exciting way to promote alternative energy awareness for high school students.
Their unique design consisted of single driver cockpit, 3 bike tires, and is registered in Michigan as a motorcycle. While the solar-powered three-wheeler was unable to exceed 55 mph, they broke the record. They took 13 days, 15 hours and 19 minutes to drive their fully solar vehicle from NYC to LA. #impressive
