In the October 4, 2021 issue of AGREEN1, we shared news of the first-ever cannabis competition at the California Exhibition & State Fair. Over 300 cannabis farmers and vendors in the Golden State submitted their plants for evaluation from November 1, 2021, to March 30, 2022. Winners were announced June 23, which was later than expected.

The evaluation was science-based, across three divisions: indoor, mixed-light, and outdoor. A spokesperson said: “Our cannabis competition evaluates raw, whole plant cannabis compound categories including three primary acidic cannabinoids, THCa/CBDa/CBGa, and six terpenes, Limonene, Pinene, Myrcene, Caryophyllene, Ocimene, and Terpinolene, and one co-dominant terpene profile.”

The Fair awarded 60 winners, including Esensia, Greenshock Farms, Naughty Squirrel Farms, MOCA Humboldt, Humo, and Harborside. The Fair will showcase all award winners at the Cal Expo Fairgrounds in Sacramento, California July 15-31.
