The Tesla CEO inched close to regaining the wealthiest person in the world title last week. His EV company has also announced expansion plans to its Sparks, Nevada plant. The Nevada gigafactory is where Tesla has been making its battery cells and EV parts. Tesla announced that it would invest as much as $3.6 billion in expanding the plant to increase its battery production capacity and to start mass-producing its semi-trucks.
The gigafactory is currently 5.4 million square feet, and the expansion project will add another 4 million square feet. An updated battery cell factory will enable the production of 100 GWh of battery cells per year, or “enough batteries” to power 2 million EVs annually, according to Tesla. The EV company said the project will add 3,000 new jobs in our new clean energy (green) industry. These jobs also strengthen U.S. energy security. Yes, they are hiring now!
