Germany’s cabinet recently voted in favor of legalizing adult-use cannabis. It still needs to be approved by the Bundestag. In most of the EU, possession of small amounts of cannabis is not an offense for imprisonment but more of a fine-based violation.
The goal in Germany is to allow government-regulated sales of cannabis for adults. First Germany will launch a pilot program to test the waters. The first phase will allow just a few licensed shops to sell cannabis products. After 5 years of collecting data, the government will revisit the issue with the intention to increase the number of licenses.
If passed by the Bundestag, Germans will be allowed to possess 50 grams monthly and will be permitted to grow 3 pants at home. Public consumption is not permitted in this legislation.
