If you have been part of the AGREEN1 community for the last few years, you know what forever chemicals are. If you are new to our grassroots Go Green network, check out these links:
In Maine, a new law called The Act to Promote Economic Reuse of Contaminated Land Through Clean Energy Development, will help farmers make use of their toxic soils caused by forever chemicals (PFAS) by helping them transition to solar farming.
By design, this law will address many of Maine’s goals. The state has a goal to provide 100% renewable energy by 2040. This will directly contribute to that goal. It will prevent farmers from going bankrupt by allowing farmers to keep their land and earn a living. Lastly it buys time for a soil remediation program to take hold.
Maine’s state Sen. Stacy Brenner (D), who sponsored the law said Maine’s solar option is “one tool among many” that states should consider to help farmers. Indeed!
